2018 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
NEW PROVIDENCE High School
Mary Catherine Riccio
Mary Catherine will be attending Villanova in the fall. She has been volunteering for many years and developed new ways to help others by initiating a summer literacy program for Children in Newark as well as establishing an annual visit to a Catholic school in Irvington to deliver Easter baskets and school supplies. Most recently she served as a member of the Junior Board of Directors at Overlook Hospital where she helped raise over $40,000 for babies in the NICU at the hospital.
During her senior year, Mary Catherine received the Union County Unsung Hero award, which recognizes a high school senior who models good citizenship and inspires others in the spirit of volunteerism.
Francesca was undecided in her college selection at time of scholarship award and intends to pursue her love of science as a pre-medicine biology major. For four years, she was involved with the junior volunteer program at Morristown Memorial Hospital where she not only learned about the workings of a hospital environment but also learned about patient care and treatment.
She was also a member of her high school’s Future Civic Leaders Club where she was involved in various volunteer opportunities. Her dream is to become a doctor where she can have an impact on patients' lives and give them a second chance. Through volunteering she knows this is possible.
