The 6th Annual Bikers for Brooke was another success despite the rain. While the numbers were less, the support was as strong as ever.  There were 56 motorcycles, 11 passengers for a total of 67 riders - a great turn out for a 62 degree, rainy day.

The New Providence Fire Department set up early and had the American flag flying high. Matt Dernier delivered a blessing of the bikes. Lucas Reiling, a 12-year-old New Providence resident and 10 year survivor of brain cancer, was the Master of Ceremonies. The NJ State Trooper Helicopter did a fly by to start the ride. Red Knights Chapter 20 escorted the route along with continued support from the Union Police Department Motor Unit and the New Providence Fire Department.

Along the route we received tremendous support from the Fire Departments we passed – Liberty Corner Fire Company, Chester Volunteer Fire Company, New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department and Green Village Fire Department – and also BHF supporters along the road in Tewksbury, Chatham and New Providence.

We had 230 attendees and 8 cars that participated in the Car Cruise, including a 1958 orange BMW Isetta 300 selected by Lucas Reiling as the winner of the Healey Family’s Choice Award.

DJ Mike Savage of Savage Tunes and the Americana/Country Rock band Kinderhook provided the music. The hot dogs were from the Chester Meat Market, and Paolo’s Kitchen from New Providence provided the main fare. Zita’s Homemade Ice Cream donate Italian ice and ice cream. The grounds were provided by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society, and the event was sponsored by the County of Union. Activities included magician Simon Mandel and the New Providence Reds at the Dunk Tank.

Amy Reiling, Lucas’ mom, was the guest speaker. Lucas was diagnosed at 23 months with a brain tumor. Since then, he has been through brain surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, countless MRIs and many other diagnostic testing. He is currently doing very well. Lucas is an inspiration and an amazing person.

All the monies raised will be put towards funding leading research and helping kids and families dealing with DIPG and other pediatric cancers. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission.
